In order to keep craft alive we believe it’s important to create opportunities to experience the joy of making first hand.We hope that through this residency programe, traditional skills and our circular approach to making will reach a wider audience.
Situated in at the heart of the watershed of making that connects Kyoto and Keihoku, we provide a unique vantage point to explore the themes of making and craft from. Residents have the opportunity to work with natural materials close to the source and to learn from a range of local experts who can inform your personal exploration. Residents can also make use of our ongoing research on ecosystems that support craft to inform their work and apply their own expericne and insight to these materials and techniques to create something new.
The infrastructure for craftsmanship we are preparing, given the name “Fab Village Keihoku,” was selected to receive the Toyota Foundation’s “Grant for Community Activities in Japan” in October of 2020. This was under the Toyota Foundation’s program titled “Creating Sustainable Communities with Future Leaders: building a problem-solving system.”
